Chennaiyin FC Conquers Bengaluru FC

Founded in 21st of October 2013, The Indian Super League (ISL) is men’s professional football league in India. It was launched with an aim to rejuvenate the game of football and increase its exposure in the country. It comprises of ten teams from nine different states in India and the season runs from November to March. It is one of the top football leagues in the country and was recognized by the Asian Football Confederation.

The Chennaiyin FC is owned by Vita Dani, Abhishek Bachhan and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. It is also known as ‘Marina Machans’. The Team manager is ex cricketer and English midfielder John Gregory.

March 17th, marked a glorious day for Chennaiyin as they beat reigning Bengaluru FC in their home turf. They defeated Bengaluru 3-2 at the Kanteerava stadium in Bengaluru.   Though Sunil Chetri gave Bengaluru an excellent early lead but it was Mailson Alves who equalized for the Chennaiyins within no time. Yet again at the stroke of half time Alves scored yet another goal and put Chennaiyin FC in the lead. Chennaiyin FC also dominated the midfield effortlessly during the second half and Raphael Augusto scored the final goal in the 67th minute of the game with the winning strike from the edge of the box.

This happens to be Chennaiyin FC’s second ISL win. The first was won in 2015 in Margao defeating Goa 3-2.
