Cyclone Titli Hits Odisha

According to meteorology, a cyclone is a large scale air mass that rotates around a strong center of low atmospheric pressure. Cyclones are characterized by inward spiraling winds that rotate about a zone of low pressure. The largest low-pressure systems are polar vortices and extra tropical cyclones of the largest scale.
Every year a lot of cities and towns are hit by massive cyclones worldwide. Recently, the state of Orissa has been hit by cyclone “Titli”. It has brought about heavy rainfall in various cities of Odisha such as Ganjam, Puri and Ganpati. The cyclone has caused a lot of damage to especially property. It has been reported that Ganjam has faced damage of hutments, blockade of roads, house roofs greatly. Minor damage to power and communication in other districts has also been reported. Fortunately, so far no heavy damage has been reported from any part of the state. Due to heavy rainfall and winds the trees got uprooted leading to the snapping of communication and electricity supply because of breakage of wires etc. The authorities are making the best of efforts in order to restore communication and electricity supply at the earliest. Apart from this, when the cyclone hit Andhra Pradesh, two residents of Andhra Pradesh, Surya Rao and Thudi Appaala Narasamma died due to collapsing of the house and falling of the tree respectively. The NDRF has deployed 14 teams in various parts of the state for the rescue process. All schools in Odisha have also been closed for October 11 and 12. Chief Minister Patnaik stated that the state is making the best of efforts to restore back everything as soon as possible. Around 1000 people have been rehabilitated due to the cyclone. It has been speculated that during the next 18 hours, it will intensify further and is likely to move north and north eastwards. The weather department has estimated that the cyclone shall weaken only after it re curves north eastwards and moves towards Gangetic West Bengal. All the districts are on high alert and Odisha government has targeted to make sure that there are zero casualties. The district collector has been making repeated efforts since then to restore the condition back to normal. Almost around 300 motor boats have been arranged in order to rescue people at risk. All the 879 cyclones and food shelters have been kept in the state of preparedness.
