
DAVID JOHN OF AUSTRALIA BECOMES THE HIGH PERFORMANCE DIRECTOR OF INDIAN HOCKEY

David John of Australia, the former exercise physiologist and scientific advisor, was officially appointed by Hockey India as the High Performance Director of Indian hockey. His predecessor, Roelant Oltmans was relieved from the post after he was declared as the Indian men’s hockey team’s chief coach till 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
John has experience in working in an identical role earlier. He was recently the High Performance Director in the Hockey India League for two teams. One of the teams, the Kalinga Lancers, became the runners up.
He also has vast experience in different sporting disciplines including rugby, hockey, triathlons, and Australian Rules Football.
Mohd Mushtaque Ahmad, the Hockey India secretary general said “"We welcome David's (John) inclusion into a role that has over the years become one of great importance for Hockey India.”
Mr. Ahmad also stated that the role of a High Performance Director is not only demanding but also requires the inclusion of a futuristic vision. He added that they are confident that their athletes will have the best planning and assistance under David before the 2020 Olympic Games event.
