Davis Cup Doubles, India Losing its Shine
Editorials News | Sep-18-2018
Kraljevo was not exciting for the Indians. The Multiple Grand Slam Champion was worth every minute but unfortunately nothing for the Indians to take from the Grand show. Captain Mahesh Bhupathi had a smile that reflected sadness while he was speaking at the press conference. He tried to sound positive as he announced that the team has secured a place to the World Group next year and hoped for a home tie.
On Saturday debutant Danilo Petrovic and Nikola Milojevic with their thunderous moves kind of proved that Rohan Bopanna and Saketh Myneni were tad on the older side and could not match the fierce serves. Bhupathi also couldn't justify his decision to change the doubles nominations from Sriram Balaji and replace with Myneni. Petrovic stands at 6'8" and was squashing the opponents at will. In order to keep the tie alive the Indians went down 6-7 (5). 2-6, 6-7 (4) in two hours and 22minutes.
