Delhi’s best CM so far: Ms. Sheila Dikshit

Sheila Dikshit famously called as Dixit was born on 31 March 1938. Lately, her sad demise on 20 July 2019 has saddened each one of us across India. She was an Indian politician who has served as the chief ministers of Delhi for about 15 years. She is also the longest-serving female chief minister of any Indian state. She served as the CM from 1998 to 2013. Dikshit has led the Congress party to three consecutive electoral victories in Delhi. In the elections of December 2013 to the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Dikshit was defeated in New Delhi constituency by Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal. Mr. Kejriwal replaced her as Delhi's chief minister. After that she was sworn in as Governor of Kerala on 11th March 2014. She resigned from this post on 25 August 2014. She was later appointed as president of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee on 10 January 2019. Ms. Dixit was born into a Punjabi Khatri family. Her father was Sh. Sanjay Kapoor. She took her early education at the Convent of Jesus and Mary School in New Delhi and later graduated with a Master of Arts degree in history from the Miranda House at the University of Delhi. She got married to Sh. Vinod Dikshit, who was son of the independence activist and former West Bengal Governor Sh. Uma Shankar Dikshit. Her husband was an IAS officer. Ms. Dikshit had a son named Sandeep Dikshit and a daughter named Latika Syed. Ms. Dikshit has won numerous awards during her lifetime such as (i) 2008 Best Chief Minister of India, by Journalist Association of India; (ii) 2009 Politician of the Year by NDTV; (iii) 2010 Dara Shikoh award by Indo-Iran Society; and (iv) 2013- Delhi Women of the Decade Achievers Award by ALL Ladies League for Outstanding Public Service. Lately, Ms. Dikshit Dikshit was admitted to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute on the 19th of July 2019 for cardiac arrhythmia. Subsequently she was put on a ventilator right after her admission. Her condition was critical yet it got stabilized for some time. The doctors tried hard to make her recover but unfortunately she could not recover from multiple cardiac arrests and her condition worsened during the following period. Her worse condition resulted into her death at 3:55 pm on 20th July 2019. She was 81 years old at this time.
