Editorials News | Nov-28-2019
We all are aware of the current situation going on in the state of Maharashtra; Devendra Fadnavis has recently given his resignation and joined PK Sawant as the shortest-serving chief minister of the state. Before Fadnavis, it was Sawant, who was the CM in 1963 and had the shortest tenure of nine days.
Three days after BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis sworn in as the Maharashtra Chief Minister amid the immense political turmoil in the state he submitted his resignation to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari shortly to which afterwards Ajit Pawar’s resignation as the deputy CM came.
Koshyari had also administered the oath of office to the two leaders in a low-key ceremony at the Raj Bhavan which set off political ripples across the parties present in the state.
However despite of Devendra Fadnavis, there were chief ministers of other states who had very less time tenures as well.
BS Yeddyurappa served for 3 days
It can be recalled the times during Karnataka government formation last year when BS Yeddyurappa’s tenure as chief minister lasted for only three days as well it happened after BJP failed to get the requisite numbers to show majority ahead of the floor test in the state assembly. Yeddyurappa, after his resignation, joined Jagdambika Pal to become the shortest-serving chief minister in the nation.
His resignation was the pavement way for the formation of a JD(S)-Congress coalition government with JD(S) state chief namely, H D Kumaraswamy as the Chief Minister. However, after the one year of having power, the coalition government lastly collapsed which paved the way for the BJP’s return to power inside Karnataka.
Jagdambika Pal for 1 day
