Editorials News | Feb-27-2020
On 24th February, US President Donald Trump with his family landed in India in the “Namaste Trump” rally in Ahmedabad which was held at the Motera Stadium. They visited Sabarmati Ashram, paid tributes to Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, watched the spinning charkha and Khadi spinning closely by both of them.
In the Motera Stadium, communicating a crowd of more than 100, 00 people, US President began his speech by saying, to deliver the message that his country America loves India, and his country respects India and his country will always be faithful and loyal friends to the Indian people and that he traveled 8,000 miles.
In his administration, he went on to talk about PM Modi’s achievements followed by Bollywood and cricket. He said India is a country which has given the greatest cricket players from Sachin Tendulkar to Virat Kohli, he said whilst pronouncing Sachin as “Soo-chin”.
The US President was hilariously trolled in the form of a video released by the International Cricket Council (ICC), as he has failed to pronounce the legendary cricketer’s name correctly. They tweeted a video where they are modifying Sachin’s name to “Soo-chin” Tendulkar in their database.
Trump also mispronounced a few more words like Cricketer Virat Kohli “Virot Kolee” and cult-classic Bollywood film “Sholay” being termed Shojay. Also, the Vedas was pronounced as the ‘Vestas’ and Late Indian monk, Swami Vivekananda as ‘Vivekamanan’.
The audience broke into applause after hearing the 73-year-old’s speech, even after his hiccups.
On the same day in 2010, incidentally, the history was created by becoming the first batsman to score a 200 in ODIs by the cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. In Gwalior, he reached the unbeaten score in 147 balls against South Africa.
Trump with his family went to visit the Taj Mahal, after visiting the Motera stadium.
