Every year Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is celebrated with full cheer in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States during early October. It is a festival of hot air balloons. The festival is celebrated for nine days and it has over 500 balloons each year. This event is recognized as the largest hot air balloon festival in the world.
The Balloon Fiesta started to highlight the 50th birthday celebration for 770 KOB Radio. It started in the year 1972. The first balloon festival had a gathering of 13 balloons on 8th April, 1972 and was sponsored by KOB. This event happened in the parking lot of the Coronado Center Shopping Mall with 20, 000 spectators. The participant balloonists were from Arizona, California, Lowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada and Texas.
The Balloon Festival grew each year by each decade passing on. Today, it is the largest balloon convention in the world. Countless people visit the landing sites all over the city to watch incoming balloons.
