Dussehra is celebrated all over India. It also marks the last day of Navratri. Today I am going to recite the whole story of Dussehra.Lord Rama along with his wife Sita and his younger brother Lakshmana were on the last year of their exile. One fine day Devi Sita spotted a beautiful golden deer and asked her husband to get it. Rama asked Lakshman to not leave Sita’s side until he returned. But it was a trap made by Ravana to get Rama out of the place. The deer transformed into a demon and Rama killed it, but before dying the demon shouted to Lakshmana in Rama’s voice for help.
Sita heard the voice got panicked. She asked Lakshmana to go help his brother. After a lot of convincing Lakshmana decided to go but, before going he drew a Lakshman Rekha to protect Sita and asked her not to cross the line. After Lakshmana was gone, Ravana disguised himself as a sage and asked Sita for some food. Sita willingly offered him some food but didn’t cross the line. Ravana insisted she cross the line and when she refused to do so, Ravana started to walk away. Sita remembered that she had never let a sage go without offering food. After a little bit of thinking, she decided to cross the line. As she crossed it Ravana transformed into his original self and abducted her.
When Rama and Lakshmana came back, they found Sita nowhere. After months of searching, with help from Vanar Raja Sugriva and his army, Hanuman’s troops finally came back with news.
After reaching Lanka war started. Ravana’s brother Vibhishana was on their side. When Ravana finally came to the war the army quickly realized that there was no way they could kill him. Anything they hit at his body from arrows to even swords, everything healed on its own. Rumor has it that on the Final day of the war, Vibhishana remembered about an elixir hidden in Ravana’s navel, he told Rama to aim his arrow there and hit him. As soon as it hit Ravana he died. The last day of the war that marked the end of Ravana is celebrated almost all over India as Dussehra. People make a statue of Ravana with cardboard, paper, wood, etc; and burst it.
