Eden Hazard Says Discrimination Is Very Common In football But It Can Be Overcome
Editorials News | Mar-07-2019
Eden Hazard, Chelsea midfielder believes that discrimination is prevalent and common in the world of football, but it can be overcome. On Thursday night, he was at Stamford Bridge as Kick It Out marked its 25th anniversary and he says people must work together to try and find solutions to these problems in football such as racism and homophobia. Hazard said that it is still a big problem, not just in England but everywhere. He added that that's why they are talking about it tonight. He also said that they can beat this if they talk in the media. They will try to stop this. It's hard but the more they talk about it, the more they can solve this problem.
Paul Elliott, Former Chelsea defender and Kick It Out co-founder, said that football now faces broader challenges compared to when he was a player in the 1980s and '90s. He added that when he formed Kick It Out in 1993, it was really about the treatment of black players on the field of play, players of his generation. All they ever wanted was that fundamental human right to work in a racism-free environment. Chris Ramsey said that he would like to see more diversity at a broader level, calling QPR director of Football Les Ferdinand a 'trailblazer'. He also added that out there on the pitch is our workplace and that was compromised in a very serious and disrespectful way. But, those challenges have been nullified. With race, there are still broader challenges, but they have got anti-Semitism, homophobia, xenophobia, Islamophobia, they are 21st-century challenges. That's the evolution of the unfortunate challenges but they have got to attack it with the same strength, leadership, vigor, and passion that they have done previously.
Eden Michael Hazard is born on 7th January 1991 and is a Belgian professional footballer who plays for English club Chelsea and captains the Belgium national team. Hazard, primarily playing as an attacking midfielder and as a wide midfielder, is known for his creativity, speed, dribbling and excellent passing. He has earned critical acclaim for his playing style, with the coaches, media, and players drawing comparisons to Ballon d'Or winners Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and Hazard is widely considered one of the best players in the world.
