Sarasota Chalk Festival is an event that celebrates Italian street painting. The festival is an American cultural event of public art that celebrates this kind of performing art form of pavement art.
In this festival, artists use chalks and sometimes a special paint to paint the road surface to make huge works of art and creativity. All the viewers on street can watch the process of creativity. The main focus of Sarasota Chalk Festival is street artists who are known as Madonnari in Italy. They are also known as Street Painters, Chalk Artists, Sidewalk Artists or Pavement Artists. This festival is held annually. It is held in Sarasota in Burns Square. New York Times featured this festival on 28th October, 2013 in it as a destination recommended on its Guide to Intelligent Travel.
One of the most interesting fact about this festival is that during its third season it became the first international street painting festival in the United States of America.
