Enjoy The Delicious Varieties of Mangoes at International Mango Festival

The International Mango Festival is held every year in Delhi, India, at the beginning of summer. It is a two-day festival that shows all types of mangoes. It has been celebrated since 1987.

It is organized by the Tourism Development and Transport Corporation of Delhi (DTTDC) in collaboration with the Export Development Authority of Agricultural and Processed Food Products, the National Horticultural Board and the New Delhi City Council. As in recent years, the festival took place in the Talkatora indoor stadium.

A tourism official explained:

More than 50 mango producers from across the country, mainly from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat and Delhi, received an interactive platform to introduce the "king of fruits". Visitors, who usually think that mangoes have only five or six varieties, were educated through tests and competitions on the wide variety of cultivated fruits and the innumerable possibilities of using mango in the kitchen. They also enjoyed colorful music and dance entertainment programs. It is an informal and international platform with a double focus, to promote tourism and the export of mango.

More than 550 varieties of mangoes are presented at the festival for visitors to see and taste. Among them are Alphonso, Mallika, Amrapali, Himsagar, Malda, Balia, Chorasya, Dhaman, Dhoon, Fazia, Gelchia, Nigarin Kheria, Ruchika and Shamasi. Notable chefs from five-star hotels such as Maurya Sheraton, Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Inter-Continental Hotel, Marriott India, Qutub Hotel and Claridges throughout India demonstrate the preparation of a variety of recipes made with mango.

The festival is also an opportunity for agro-industries and food industries to process mangoes in jams, pickles, fruit juices and canned fruits to display their products.

Some visitors found the culinary preparations interesting, something unusual in a country where the fruit is eaten mainly without cooking. India exports around 40,000 metric tons of mangoes to 80 countries and the annual income obtained from the export of mangoes and mango products reaches $ 85 million. The organizers of the festival hope that the event will help raise these figures significantly. Hindu mythology in India gives mango an aura of mysticism as a symbol of the joy of life.

Mango festivals are also held in other parts of the world, such as one organized by Fairchild Tropical Gardens in Miami, Florida, United States, another in Cebu, the Philippines and a third in Negril, Jamaica.

On August 9, 2015, there will be the 1st International Mango Festival of Canada in Mississauga, Ontario Organized by Canadian Friend's Front (CFF) and United Canadian Pakistani Volunteers (UCPV).

Mango is an international fruit favored by many countries and loved by many communities in the city of Mississauga. We have chosen Mango to be a center of attraction for this event due to the diverse and rich cultural communities of Mississauga and to keep in mind their love for it. Almost all the communities that live in Mississauga produce Mango in their native country or import it, taking this into account. The International Mango Festival of Canada aims to represent the mango of each mango producing region in the world. We believe that it is one of the most common factors among the communities here and, once we celebrate this festival, it will attract people and attract them. We would like to involve local suppliers and businesses in the city to participate and showcase their services and goods related to mango to support the local economy. There has never been such an event in Canada and this event will bring the city of Mississauga on the map more prominently.
