Federer Loses To Del Potro In The Indian Wells Title

Juan Martin del Potro keeps amazing himself along with the fans. After 4 recent wrist surgeries in the recent times he was close to quitting tennis but he fought back with determination to defeat the world top ranked Roger Federer. The former US Open Champion staved off 3 match points in the third set 6-4, 7-6 (8), 7-6(2) to win the BNP Paribas Open Title. The win was as spectacular as his 2009 US Open Title win, in which he beat Roger Federer and the games he played which helped Argentina win Davis Cup in 2016. He wasn't able to comprehend his win too - after all, beating Federer is like reaching to a whole other level of tennis.

Naomi Osaka of Japan won the women's title by 6-3, 6-2 after defeating Russian Daria Kasatkina. Both men's and women's champions - Del Potro and Osaka won a total of $1.3 million dollars. Not only did Del potro become the first Argentine champion in the 42 year history of the tournament, he also broke the Swiss superstar's 17 match winning record by handing him the first loss of this year. It was his first win against Federer after the last year's US open quarters. He survived three-setters against the Leonardo Mayer in the fourth round and Philipp Kohlschreiber in the quarterfinals. Juan Martin del Potro arrived at the tournament after winning a title in Acapulco.
