Former Champion Serena Williams Withdraws From Tennis Open

World Tennis Star Serena Williams has decided to withdraw from the Madrid Open. The competition was scheduled to be held in the second week of May 2018. The star gave the reason that she is not ready to compete yet. Serena Williams is a 23 time Grand Slam Champion and her withdrawal has definitely shook the tennis world and saddened her fans. In September last year, Williams gave birth to a daughter named Alexis before announcing her pregnancy in April last year mistakenly on Snapchat. She won her Australian Open 2017 while 8 weeks pregnant.

The Grand Slam Champion also suffered early exits from Indian Wells and Miami. These two competitions were the only ones that she played after giving birth to Alexis which was followed by a 14 month layoff. Williams had gone through a Cesarean section delivery due to some end moment complications which left her devastated for a some time. Recovery for C-section takes a long time too.

Serena Williams has not been on any WTA tour since she lost in the first round in Miami to Naomi Osaka. She has decided that she needs more time to get prepared and come on the field. Madrid Open organizer Manolo Santana expressed his regret for Serena's absence on the tournament's official website. William has won the titles in Madrid since 2012 and 2013. She was also scheduled to take part in the one of the tournament's charity event and will now be replaced by fellow American Coco Vandeweghe.
