Gaja Capital Puts EuroKids On The Block

Gaja Capital, one of the home grown private equity fund has lately put its pre-school chains consisting of schools like EuroKids, Kangaroo Kids and Billabong High on the block making the value of chains approximately nearly 300 million dollars. Gaja Capital and the Swiss fund Partners Group together hold around 75% stake in EuroKids. The EuroKids group is a well-known chain of schools. This chain was founded by Prabodh Rajan and Vikas Phadnis in the year 2001.
This chain has schools and pre-schools all over India and operates through franchises as well. Their revenue in the FY 18 was around Rs. 350 crores. Currently Gaja Capital and Swiss fund Partners Group holds around 75% stake together in the EuroKids school chain. EuroKids has also acquired Kangaroo Kids and Billabong High International School as well. EuroKids is located in around 360 towns in India, Nepal and Bangladesh. Billabong has its presence in Qatar, Dubai, Maldives and Saudi Arabia. There are in total 79 pre-schools that form a part of the chain of Kangaroo Kids and the network of Billabong High schools has 21 schools in total. EuroKids Group consists of Euro-Kids International, EuroSchool Properties & InfrastructureNSE 2.78 %, EuroSchool International, EuroSchool Foundation, EuroSchool Education Trust, Kangaroo Kids Education and Lina Ashar Foundation. There are various pre-schools in the organised pre-school market. Among the major ones are Amelio, EuroKids, Kangaroo Kids, Kidzee, Little Elly, Lily Candies, Little Einsteins, Modern Montessori International, SHEMROCK, Smartkidz, Sunshine Preschool & Daycare and TreeHouse. Despite tough competition EuroKids has made its place in the pre-school market. It has been able to do this due to its brand name and good standing in the market. One of the major sectors in which Gaja Capitals invests is the Education sector. Gaja Capital manages assets of about $500 million across its three funds and has a major focus on the consumption segment.
