Global Warming and Climate Change: Scientist Vs Skeptics
Editorials News | Aug-14-2019
First and foremost we need to understand the difference between global warming and climate change. While Global warming refers to only the rising surface temperature of the Earth, climate change includes not just the warming but also the side effects this warming is causing like the melting of the glaciers, unpredicted rains and frequent droughts that have now become a common phenomenon. Since 1979, global average and land temperatures have shown an increase of about twice as fast as global average ocean temperatures. These increase of Global temperatures has been a result of increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and the primary reason behind is the combustion of fossil energy sources such as petroleum, coal, and natural gases, to a great extent the destruction o forest cover all over the globe, increase in methane , volcanic activity and different industrial activity which is only adding to this ever increasing concoction that at this time has become a treat to the existence of this planet and its inhibit ants.
Scientists have been constantly monitoring, studying the ever changing phenomenon and trying to find ways to control global warming and climate change. However, there is a constant debate between scientist and skeptics regarding the cause of this Global warming.
While scientist have been arguing about weather change and the way human activity have led to the release of greenhouse gases which have led to the change in climate since the late nineteenth century. Skeptics on the other hand deride this theory as a monumental hoax. Ideally one should compare the skeptical and the mainstream views purely on basis of science divorced from any kind of industry interference or political ideology. However, very unfortunately that is not the case. Most often both scientist and skeptics to take a public stand to voice their opinions, findings have ties to the industry and conservative ideology. This makes it difficult for the masses to understand the reality and the perception of people gets processed through partisan lenses. Skeptics also try to make believe that climate change is a natural process rather than the result of human activity over decades that failed to pay heed to the conservation of the environment. This whole thing at certain point becomes very confusing as skeptics vigorously criticize any evidence that supports the theory of manmade global warming yet they do not have any scientific or logical reason to explain the unpredictable changes in weather that has affected every part of the world.
Bottom line is we have both consciously and unconsciously caused a lot of damage to the only place that is home, in the name of development, technology and many more. This land is the only land and we should now take serious steps divorced of any kind of affiliation to save this planet. Debates will not cure the Earth but conscious efforts will.
