Climate change activists have been going around spreading awareness about extreme weather conditions all around the world. Alongside blizzards, extreme heat is also a consequence of climate change. A lot of problems are arising due to the changes such as:
1) Heatstroke: It occurs when the body cannot control its temperature and its temperature rises rapidly. It can cause intense damage if not treated immediately. Seizures and loss of consciousness are some of the symptoms of a heat stroke. To aid this immediately cold water/ ice bath can be given to the victim.
2) Rhabdomyolysis: This is a condition caused by excessive heat exposure. This causes rapid breakdown and death of muscle. When muscle dies, it causes irregular heartbeats, seizures, and kidney failure. The quick symptoms of rhabdomyolysis are muscle pain and exercise intolerance. Water can be provided as first aid in this case.
3) Heat cramps: This is when the body muscles start cramping due to enduring excessive heat. Profuse sweating in heat causes loss of salt which in result causes cramps and abdomen spasms. To aid this the patient can eat something every 10 minutes.
4) Heat rash: Excessive sweating causes skin rashes also known as heat rashes. These look like a small cluster of pimples and they can be made better by keeping the rash dry and cool.
To avoid facing any of the above-mentioned people should refrain from going out in the sun and heat. Hydration is key is this heat. People should contribute to the prevention of climate change to maintain the environment and prevent extreme heat.
