Here Are Some Indian Scientist In NASA You Should Know

India’s proudest moments in 2014 when they successful entering in Mangalyaan into the Mars Orbit. The worldwide recognition and praise for this achievement on India’s first attempt and at the cost of 70th million, a small budget than that required to make the film Gravity, finally signal led the arrival of Indian space ambitions, and the other achievements that have followed have been just as inspiring.

To begin with, here are some brilliant minds that have pushed scientific boundaries and played key role in space related discoveries and mission for NASA. They are basically started from recorded setting astronaut to program managers and decorated researchers, all of whom have played a major role in re defining man’s understanding of the universe.

  1. Ashwin Vasavada:

Ashwin Vasavada recently named the project manager for NASA’s Mars Rovar Curiosity, thereby placing him the incharge of a team of nearly 500 researchers around the globe. A former deputy project scientist for the mission, he has spent over a decade on the Mars science Laboratory and knows the mission and its sub system in a way that other do. According to NASA he has been part of many spacecraft missions like Galileo Mission to Jupiter, the Cassini Mission to Saturn, Mars Polar Lander, and Mars Odyssey.

       2.Sharmila Bhattacharya:

Sharmila Bhattacharya has a Nigerian DNA, she has master’s and Doctorate degree in molecular biology from Princeton University and has conducted the post doctorate research in neurological at Stanford University. Her research has involved studying the immune system changes during spaceflight and the effect of radiations and altered gravity on living systems which is conducted by studying the effect of space on fruit-flies and yeast.

       3.Sunita William :

Sunita William is only the second Indian American female in NASA, but what helped her to gain the international recognition was when she set the longest record of spacewalk time by the female astronauts with about 50 minutes and 40 minutes on seven extra - vehicular activities as well as the longest spaceflight by a woman. Although she was born in America but India and its influence has always been close to her heart as she revealed on her visit to India in 2013.

     4.Kalpana Chawla :

Many names have captured the collective imagination from past two decades as much as Kalpana Chawla. Kalpana Chawla was born in Karnal, Punjab and went to obtain her degree in aero-nautical engineering from Punjab Engineering College. She was elected as the Indian Astronaut candidate in 1994 and went for her first mission on 1997 on Colombia STS-87, and became the first Indian women to go into the space.
