Hero Gold Cup: Indian Women’s Football Team Faces Nepal

India the host would look to seal a place into the final of the Hero Gold Cup Women’s International football tournament when it will face Nepal in its second round-robin match in Bhubaneswar on Monday.

On Saturday India began its campaign with a 1-0 win over Iran, with Anju Tamang finding the net in the 48th minute and a win on Monday will take the team to final of the four-team tournament.

It was India’s fifth win against Iran on the trot after back-to-back victories of India against both Indonesia and Hong Kong in prior matches of this tournament.

Coach Maymol Rocky told that they play to win in every match and against Iran it was no different. They knew that this will be a tough match for them and they wanted to start the tournament with a positive note.

India could have scored much better but it was an unlucky day as Sanju hit the woodwork in the second half and Anju muffed another golden chance in the last minutes.

The coach further added that everyone did their job on the pitch to the fullest and they were confident before the match. He said that he is aware of the potential of this team and they played to the best of their abilities and stunned one of the best women teams in Asia.

Earlier on Friday Nepal had lost 0-3 to Myanmar in its first match but Maymol said it was no pushover.

He said that Nepal is a very strong side and they should not be underestimated. The team is really quick on the break and has decent finishing skills. Indian team needs to be on the top of the game and aim for a win.
