How Increasing Temperature Affects Earth
Editorials News | Apr-06-2020
'We are the world, we are the children, and we are the ones who make a
brighter day, so let's start giving. There's a choice we are making, we are saving
our own lives. It's true we'll make a better just you and me';. How gracefully
Michael Jackson had put these words in a song and it seems that they are
turning into the reality we face today.
Climate change has taken a new phase by putting our lives in jeopardy. The
the intact ecosystem is collapsing and we are at the beginning of mass extinction.
This threat is no more just a change occurring on Earth; it's a crisis we are
facing now. These crises have never been treated as a crisis; they have been
ignored for decades. Though politicians around the world have passed many
laws and promised to take action, I don't see such things happening around me.
Greta Thunberg, a Swedish activist, an inspiration for the youths today, recently
told in one of her speeches that; recently a handful of rich countries pledged to
reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases to become climate neutral or net
zero.' It’s more of the paperwork and less on grounds, why? Changes required
are still nowhere in sight. People are desperate for any sign of hope.
Well, there is no ray of hope from the government here. The hope comes from
us. It is within our power to do something about it. The world is rising and the
change is coming. To face it or not is not in our hands anymore. Our ancestors,
elderly people have enjoyed spending their time in the laps of Mother Earth,
disposing of the emissions of Co2. What have you left for us? My generation and
generations after me do not have the gratification to enjoy nature. No worries
then, it's our future and we are the ones to face it.
Lack of awareness is a major problem everywhere. Without a sense of urgency,
how can we understand the crisis? Some people are still unaware of the
consequences that we will be facing in the coming decade. With each degree
rising in the temperature, we will get close to our extinction. We cannot let this
happen. We want to live. Richest 10% of the world's population produces half of
our Co2 emission while the poorest 50% account for just 1/10th
Car Pooling is a major step that can be taken on a large scale and it is being
practiced by a lot of people these days. We all have studied about the 3Rs and
now it’s time to implement it with a sense of seriousness. In this world of digital
shopping, it is our prime duty to buy things with less packaging as it will help in
reducing waste.
The saying, “An apple a day, keeps the doctor away” seems to be replaced by,
“A tree a day will keep the warming away”. That’s true! Due to deforestation,
the rate of transpiration has gone down rapidly which has resulted in drought in
many areas. Planting trees will not only help in the growth of transpiration but
also help in increasing the level of O2 in the air.
Apps like Kil-Ur-Watts and Wiser EMS not only help calculate your energy
costs but provide tools and ways to save energy and money. Use Clothesline to
Dry Your Clothes. Think of your grandmother when you do this. Most clothes
shouldn’t be put in the dryer anyway. Here are a few steps that we can take on
our side to prevent this global cause. One small movement on our account can
create awareness amongst many. So let's stand together to bring a change, to
save our future, to save our Mother Earth.
