IIT Education Set For a Radical Revamping

The IIT council is all set for a meeting to be held on the 21st of August 2018, and the main agenda of the meeting aims at a major revamping of the present IIT education system. The major focus is on doing away with the present Joint Entrance Advance Exam, to scrap the flagship B Tech courses at IIT and converting the present IITs into high-end institutes that will in future offer post-graduate courses and also incorporating certain semesters of teaching to reach out to approximately 80,000 students a year which at present caters only to 10,000 plus students.

This new idea has emerged from some of the most eminent faculties of top IIT institution. Their idea is to “Revamp the engineering Education and Return Childhood to the Students”. This also aims at checking the flourishing multi -million IIT coaching centers and making IIT level teaching more accessible to students. It is well known amongst the aspiring IIT students and the concerned guardians how these coaching centers have robbed the students of normal life. Many a news of students committing suicide due to abnormal pressure to crack the IIT has been a cause of concern.

This news has also been confirmed from sources at the HRD ministry.

This radical proposal suggests that IIT will no longer grant B Tech degrees, but instead provide one semester IIT experience. Admission to this semester long IIT experience will be for the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th semesters of the B Tech Programme, and will be based on performance in an examination based on National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning or NPTEL.
