Illegal Play Schools to Shut Down in Telangana
Editorials News | Oct-09-2018
The crime rate in India has increased to a great extent even beyond expectations. Most common these days are the sexual crimes against people of all age groups and sexes. Even little children in school are not safe these days. They are also equally subjected to sexual assaults and other crimes of like nature.
Recently one such incident took place in the pre - primary section of the Tolichowki School where a minor was sexually abused. Post this incident the Telangana school education department has taken the initiative to conduct a survey on the number of pre-schools and primary schools that are running without the needful recognition. The school was asked to shut down its pre-primary section when it came to light that the management ran it without seeking recognition and following the safety guidelines issued by the National Council of Protection of Child Rights. Time and again these surveys are conducted and inspections take place but these hardly have any impact on these illegal institutions and their managements. It is indeed extremely important to keep conducting inspections and surveys every now and then to ensure the quality of education and the safety of our children. The Telangana Education Board has laid down a deadline which is October 31, 2018 for all such schools that are running without requisite approvals to submit online details. After the submission of details by these schools, an inspection shall be conducted by the deputy inspection officers. These officers shall then compile the necessary data. In 2016 also the education board mandated the need for recognition but hardly any schools paid heed to it. The authorities stated that it is becoming very difficult for them to catch hold of such schools but this time post October the authorities will make sure that strict action is taken against such private players. As per the Andhra Pradesh Education Act, 1982, the schools that shall fail to comply by this shall have to face imprisonment ranging from six months to three years. Alongside if the management is found guilty, they may have to pay a penalty ranging from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 50,000. Due to such increasing incidents the education systems have to face the flak from parents and activists for being so careless and reluctant and for not being able to do their job properly. Such incidents take place every now and then, despite that the department has hardly been able to take effective steps regarding this concern. It is the need of the hour that we all must wake up and stand up against such heinous crimes to save ourselves and our children.
