India to Get Six New IITs

The Institutes of Technology (Amendments) Act, 2016, got President Pranab Mukherjee’s consent on 11th August, 2016. As per this act, six new Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) will set up in the country. IIT’s will be started in Kerala, Goa, Dharward, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Tirupati.

 

This law has brought Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad under its realm and will be called Indian Institute of Technology. The act stated that all these institutions will be of national importance.

 

The President has also given his assent to a law for establishment of a National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Andhra Pradesh.

 

The Lok Sabha had passed this Amendment Bill on July 25, 2016. Rajya Sabha approved the same on August 2, 2016.
