India to host FIBA Women's Asia Cup

India has achieved two crowns by hosting different event in 2017 including FIBA Women's Asia Cup and FIBA Under-16 Women's Asian Championship. The news has been announced by the Basketball Federation of India (BFI). The event date for FIBA Women's Asia Cup is scheduled from July 23 to 29 in Bengaluru.

Additionally, the FIBA U-16 Women's Asian Championship will be held from October 22 to 28 in Hyderabad, as per a statement by BFI. This time few new teams such as Oceania teams Australia and New Zealand are also participating in the event. Fourteen teams will take part in both the events that are divided into two sections where eight teams are in Division A and other six are in lower Division B.

Since 2009, this will be the first time that India will host a major International Basketball Federation (FIBA) event. A certain increase in on-court quality of the Indian national teams over the past two years has provided a golden opportunity to India. FIFA has allotted this event to India with utmost confidence and support after analyzing the success of a new leadership of the BFI led by resident K. Govindaraj and Secretary General Chander Mukhi Sharma.
