India vs New Zealand Davis Cup Tie in Pune

India’s Davis Cup Group-I tie against New Zealand seemed pretty straightforward to the outside observer. The match was played at Pune’s Balewadi Sports Complex. The final result was more or less as predicted: 4-1 in India’s favour. It seems that Leander Paes will have to wait to achieve the title of world’s best most doubles wins in Davis Cup. Leander and Vishnu Vardhan defeats the lone doubles contest in the Group 1 Asia/Oceania first round tie in Pune.

The Davis Cup doubles was played against New Zealand’s Artem Sitak and Michael Venus. During the earlier match, Sitak and Venus faced some challenges while clearing the first 2 singles. However, they played well in the final and achieved a convincing 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(6), 6-3 win in two hours and 30 minutes.

Paes and Vardhan gave a good start to the match by securing the opening set in 28 minutes by breaking Venus in the sixth game. However, the New Zealand pair fought back fabulously by winning the second set in 32 minutes.
