Indian Basket Ball Team: The Common Wealth Games
Editorials News | Apr-14-2018
Basket ball was first introduced in India in 1930, when it was played for the first time. The first Indian National Championship was conducted in the year 1934 and in 1936 became the member of FIBA. The Basket Ball Federation was formed in 1950.
Whenever we speak of Basketball the counties that stand out are the USA, Spain and Serbia who dominate the game. India is yet a long way to go as they till now haven’t been able to get foothold even in the Asian circuits. However, positive news is the new batches of players have shown lots of promise and are striving forward trying their best to make a mark. Right now the focus is on the upcoming Commonwealth games. Players like Satnam Singh, Amritpal Singh and Amjyot Singh who had their stints abroad have helped India mark its name in Basketball. Though Amitpal and Amjyot had missed in two of the games held against Jordan and Lebanon at the World Cup Asian Qualifiers matches, but their return has brought with them a huge boost to the entire contingent. The trio has a huge responsibility on their shoulders. However, there are other team members like Arvind Annadurai, Yadwinder Singh, Arvind Arumugam and Akilan Pari are players who are not only good at the game but have to share the burden equally. The teams are in preparation for their journey to Gold Coast, Australia for the Commonwealth games to be held from the 5th of April to the 14th April 2018.
