Editorials News | Jun-09-2017
The Indian Men’s Hockey Team has left for the 3 Nations Invitational Tournament to commence in Dusseldorf, Germany. The squad of 18 members departed from the Kempegowda International Airport following a two-week national camp at the Sports Authority of India.
In Dusseldorf, India will play two matches at the tournament, each against Belgium and Germany. Before the departure, skipper Manpreet Singh said “Playing top teams like Germany and Belgium (both Rio Olympic Medalists), will help us a lot ahead of the Hero Hockey World League Semi Final (Men)”.
Soon after the tournament, on June 9, the team will reach London for the Hero Hockey World League Semi Final (Men). There they will practice play matches against Argentina and Great Britain Olympic Gold Medalists before beginning the tournament.
The 24-year-old Singh also mentioned that they always take practice matches seriously as performing well in a practice match means obtaining the needed momentum for starting the tournament and getting a good sense of how to take penalty corners.
On June 15, India will play their first match against Scotland, on June 17 against Canada, on June 18 against Pakistan, and on June 20 against Netherlands.
