Indian Team Won Another Remarkable Test Series Defeating West Indies by 2-0
Editorials News | Oct-17-2018
There were many records broken when Indian Cricket Team played the 2nd test match against West Indies in Hyderabad after the team won its first test against the guest team, with an extinguishing performance on the home ground. It was just 3rd day of the test match when India defeated West Indies by 10 wickets.
The test series came out to be one of the best clean sweeps against West Indies so far in the history. On the first day of 2nd test match, Indian team got a shock after one of the two medium pace bowlers Shradul Thakur injured just while bowling his 2nd over and the over was completed by R. Ashwin. Indian team was left out with just one fast bowler Umesh Yadav and three spinners. While handling the ball at one end, fast bowler Umesh Yadav took 10 wickets in the test match, 6 in the first innings and 4 in the second innings, it was indeed a record being made. On this Indian Coach Ravi Shastri stated that when India is playing at home it's easy to get complacent and carried away. When India loses, one fast bowler, there is another one who stands up and takes 10 wickets. Umesh sat on the bench for four Tests in England. He beautifully grabbed the opportunity presented to him. It's been done only four times (10-wicket haul by Indian pacers at home). Umesh has indeed given the selectors a headache. It was only a 7th 10 wicket victories for India in test match, last was in 2009 against New Zealand. India got a fabulous talent in the name and shape of Prithvi Shaw, who did immensely good with his bat and fielding skill and became the youngest Indian player to win a Man of the Series award in Test cricket. Prithvi Shaw became the second youngest player (18y 339d) to hit the winning run in Tests after Pat Cummins (18y 198d) who did it against South Africa at Johannesburg in 2011. Another record that was set by Virat Kohli is that he now holds the record of scoring most runs among Asian captains in the whites. However, he missed out on scoring a century in the fifth consecutive Test at home. India became the second team to win 10 consecutive Test series at home after Australia with the series win over West Indies. When it comes to West Indies, only two players performed out of the box to list their name out. Roston Chase and Jason Holder were only the positives for Windies. They have bigger issues in their batting department which were evident in the series and they need to work on those problems to become a better team going forward. Out of the four innings in this series, West Indies couldn't cross the 200 runs mark thrice which was a setback for the guest team.
