IndraNooyi - Middle-Class Girl Who Broke Glass Ceiling In Corporate America

IndraNooyi was born on 28th October 1955 in a conservative Tamil family in Madras. Her father worked at the State Bank of Hyderabad. She served as the Chairperson and the Chief Executive Officer of PepsiCo, one of the largest food and beverage businesses in the world, until last year. She is currently serving as Board of Director of Amazon. Nooyi also joined ICC as its first independent female director last June. With her achievement, she has certainly inspired millions of Indians especially woman who incline to achieve success as an Indian residing in America.
She has been consistently ranked among World's 100 Most Powerful Women and is one of the top female executives in the US. She has contributed heavily to the diversification and expansion of PepsiCo's brands, which were previously focused only on soft drinks. She is known to be a highly energetic and hard-working person. Even though she was born in middle-class conservative family in Tamil Nadu, she has always refused to adhere to conservative norms of the society.
After completing a PG Diploma from IIM, Calcutta, she proceeded to Yale School of Management to complete her Masters. She received job offers from several prestigious companies including General Electric. She joined PepsiCo in 1994 and rose to the position of CEO in 2006.
Before joining PepsiCo, she held prominent positions in Motorola and Asea Brown Boveri. She is the first one to hold the deanship at a top business school. She is on the board of several non-profit organisations like Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, US-India Business Council. Catalyst, the World Economic Forum and Asia Society etc.
She has also been quite vocal about the challenges that women face while trying to create healthy balance between home and work. She has famously said that women 'cannot have it all' at an Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado in 2014. She told the audience that she has been guilt-stricken so many times while bringing up her two daughters.
She currently resides in Connecticut, USA with her husband and two daughters.
