Information Technology: A Developing Technology

Information Technolgy or IT is basically the study or use of electronic equipment especially computers, for storing, analyzing, and distribution of information of all kinds, including texts, numbers, and pictures. Since human life started on earth, information has been the major cause of his progress and development.  But information alone is not enough. 

The information has to be processed using logic and reason to arrive at useful knowledge. The 21st century is the century of Information Technology as well as there is a huge scope for it in the future as well. IT has changed a lot since we started to use it regularly. To gather some information all we need to do is to open our computer, search for the desired information and voila, we have lots of sites that provide the information. IT has brought so many changes to the old-time methods such as; E-mails have replaced letters, goods can be bought online instead of waiting in long queues, etc. In the field of social and cultural development also, Information Technology is showing its wonderful impact.  Home shopping, Telebanking, Video conferencing, E-mail, Videophones, etc. are bringing the peoples of the world closer together and ushering in an era of mutual goodwill and many others. 

Information Technology is there in every field today. Digital payments help us to save time. Our students’ studies are going on as usual during COVID times too using IT-enabled technologies. In the service industry, people are working online from home without any hindrance. We have heard how Robots and Drones are used at some places to serve on time in hospitals and other supply chain management systems. Using IT, we are also staying connected with our families and friends virtually via many apps/websites like FaceTime, Hangouts, WhatsApp, and many others. Thus Information Technology has helped the world stay connected during these pandemic times also.

Information Technology in its new avatar as Artificial Intelligence is taking the world by storm with the kind of advancement it has brought in many fields already even though it is in its nascent stage. The world is not going to be the same in a decade from now due to advancements in Information Technology areas like Automations and Augmented Reality.IT has thrashed boundaries by truly making the world a Global Village.No doubt, its called the biggest invention of the Century.

So let us also develop interest and study the fast-growing segment of IT like AI and Robotics as they have become a necessity for all students of today without any hesitation else we will be called digital illiterates in the future.
