
It’s All About “English Football League”

Football is the most famous sport in the world. There are various tournaments organized in Football, The English Football League (EFL) is one of them.
It is a competition that features England and Wales professional football clubs. It is the oldest competition in the world of its kind that was started in 1888. Until the year 1992 it was the top- level football league. In 1992 22 clubs split away to form the Premier League and the English Football League took a setback. There are 72 clubs equally divided into three divisions, known as the Championship, League One and League Two. Each of the division has 24 clubs. The Football League has been associated with a title sponsor between 1983 and 2016. It changed its name with change in the sponsors. Two knockout cup competitions, the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy are also organized by it. It follows the rule that Clubs gain three points for a win. They get one point for a draw, and get no points for a defeat. At the end of the season, the best performer clubs who are at the top of their division may win promotion to the next higher division. During the First World War the League was suspended for four seasons and it was resumed in 1919.
