It’s the year of Indian Wrestlers!!

While millions of cricket lovers in India were devastated when India did not make it to the finals of Cricket World cup, the Indian Wrestlers both men and women have been toiling hard to make their mark in the 2019 Ranking Series tournament in Yasar Dogu in Istanbul.
Star Indian grappler Vinesh Phogat clinched a gold medal in the 53 kg category by winning all her four bouts comprehensively (11-1, 7-0, 14-4, 9-5) over Russia’s Ekaterina Poleshchuk. Just the week before Vinesh had also bagged a gold in grand prix of Spain. Seema and Manju Kumari both won gold medal each in the 50kg and 59 kg category. Seema beat Russian Valeriya Chepsarakova with a 3-2 win while Manju thrashed Katsiaryna Hanchar Yanushkevich of Belarus 13-2, in the 59kg finals.
While in men's wrestling Rahul Aware clinched his gold in the 61kg freestyle category, a very tactical victory of 4-1 over Munir Aktas of Turkey, while Utkarsh Kale won a bronze in the same category.
Deepak Punia won silver in the 86kg after he lost to Aleksandr Gostiyev of Azerbijan, 2-7. In the 125kg Sumit managed to win a bronze.
Sakshi Malik was making a comeback after an injury but unfortunately could not reach to the medal tally. After losing the pre-quarter finals Sakshi got a chance to be in contention for a bronze medal but lost the repechage round by a close margin to Russia’s Uliana Tukurenova. Pooja Dhanda also could not make it to the medal tally.
