Every year in the month of August we celebrate this auspicious day. Lord Krishna was born at this time, the god due to his humane characteristics is the most loved god. He is the most relatable one and I think that is the sole reason why he is loved by all. The joyous occasion of Janmashtami or Gokulashtami has any lesser known facts associated with it. Lord Krishna has multiple names which counts more than 100.
108 is the number of names of Lord Krishna, isn’t it amazing. However, the number 108 is sacred in Hinduism, and just like Lord Shiva even Lord Krishna has 108 names. Some of the most famous names are Gopal, Kanhaiya, Shyam, Ghanshyam, Govind, Mohan, Girdhari, Baanke Bihari, Hari, Nandlala, Devakinandan, Krishna, Manohar, Kishan, etc.
Radha’s existence is debatable
According to many spiritualists there is no mention of Radha in any of the ancient scriptures. Many scriptures like Shrimad Bhagavad Gita or Mahabharat or the Vedas or the Upanishads are their but name of Radha is not associated in any of these. Radha’s name first crops up in the interesting works of Acharya Nimbark and poet Jayadeva. This is due to because folklore in all probability used Radha’s name to make Lord Krishna more human and acceptable as a god. However, Lord Krishna’s wife Rukmini and Satyabhama names are mentioned in these scriptures.
The reason of Lord Krishna’s death was Gandhari’s curse
The Kurukshetra war that was fought between the Pandavas and Kauravas was the reason behind death of 100 sons of Gandhari. When Lord Krishna after the war came to offer his condolences to Gandhari, she cursed him that along with Yadu dynasty, Lord Krishna will also perish in 36 years and no further King of Yadu clan would ever be able to claim the throne.
Lord’s relation with Pandavas
Lord Krishna was in relation with Pandavas through their mother’s side. Kunti who was the mother of Pandavas was also the sister of Vasudev who was the father of Lord Krishna. And this ultimately made him the cousin of Pandavas.
Lord Krishna was behind the killing of Eklavya
Eklavya who was the disciple of Drona was killed by Krishna. He cut off his thumb and gave to Drona as gurudakshina. However later, Lord Krishna gave him a boon to seek vengeance on Drona so that he gets reborn as Drishtadyumna.
