Junior World Wrestling Championship 2018

The Junior World Wrestling Championship is an event that takes place every year and it is an opportunity that brings the best of wrestlers from across the globe. There are three different categories, the Greco- Roman, the Freestyle and the Women’s Wrestling. The wrestlers are aged between 18 to 20 years. It is indeed a unique experience to see the next generation of wrestlers’ making their mark.

This year the championships are held at Trnava, Slovakia from the 17th to the 23rd of September. It was a big surprise at the opening round when India putting forward its three wrestlers into the nights Greco-Roman semifinals. The team led by last year’s tempered bronze medalist Sajan, Vijay and Sagar managed to wrap up the first session with seven wins and just two defeats.

In the women’s category Anshu Malik made sure that India does not endure medal –less day and she beat Alina Kazymova of Russia 11-5 in the 59 kg category and managed to grab the bronze medal, however she lost at the semifinals to Sae Nanjo of Japan by technical superiority.

Mansi was impressive till she reached the semi finals of the 57 kg category however; she lost to Andoriahanako Sawa from Japan. She now will fight it out with the winner of the bout between Germany and Canada.

Karuna still has an opportunity to prove herself and get a bronze. She has to defeat Kamila Czeslawa Kulwicka of Polland in the repechage round.  The other players like Radhika, Swati Shinde, Jaspreet  Kaur and Sonika Hooda could not really make a mark.
