Knee Injury Keeps Carolina Marin Away From the BWF World Championship

Carolina Marin, a Spanish professional badminton player has made her place in the World badminton circuit by being three time world champion, four times European Champion and also the former World’s number 1 in BWF ranking for the women's singles discipline. She managed to hold the number 1 title for a record number of 66 weeks. Today she is regarded as one of the finest and greatest female athletes in the Badminton circuit and she is the one who holds the distinction of having won a medal at almost every BWF tournament that she participated apart from the consecutive gold that she won in the Olympics.
Surprisingly Carolina was a flamenco dancer before she took the badminton world by storm. She was introduced to badminton by her friend and she fell in love with the sports and she also became the first Spanish badminton player to win a silver medal first at the European Junior Championships in 2009.In 2013 she also became the first Spanish Badminton player to win a Grand Prix Gold title. During the inaugural edition of the Indian Badminton League she played for the Bangalore based team Banga Beats. In 2015 she won the All England Super series Premier Final after she defeated Saina Nehwal which propelled her to world number 4.
In 2018 she won her fourth consecutive European Championship and the same year she also won the title in the Badminton World Championships by defeating P.V. Sindhu. This also made her the first female badminton player in history to win three World Championships titles. However, this year while playing for the Daihatsu Indonesia Masters finals against Saina Nehwal she suffered from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee and since had to opt out of the competition.
She underwent a knee surgery and was gearing up to play for the World Championships to be held in Basel from August. However, in a recent statement she has informed that she will not be participating in the World Championships, but will wait for the tournaments that will commence from September.
