Let’s See What FIBA Is All About

FIBA (International Basketball Federation) was founded in Geneva in 1932; this organisation conducts the international basketball competitions. It’s organised in 5 different zones or committees – Africa, America, Asia, Oceania and Europe. 213 are the total members.  The present president of FIBA is Horacio Muratore and secretary general is Patrick Baumann.

This federation do some specific work:

  1. International rules for basketball.
  2. Provides the equipments and facilities.
  3. Transfers athletes across the countries.
  4. Look out for the appointments of the referees. 

 FIBA announced three new tournaments in 2009:

  1.  U-17 World Championships was played in July 2010 with two 12 teams.
  2.  FIBA World Club Championship was launched in October 2010 with 8 teams.
  3.  The FIBA Intercontinental Cup is the relaunched as world club championship for men.

In 1989, FIBA allowed Olympics participants for players from the NBA in United States. The FIBA 3x3 U-18 World Championships was in 2011. This championship was held yearly and 32 teams participated in it for each individual tournament which was held. The senior championship had 24 teams in each individual tournament and was conducted in every second year.
