Maharashtra Elections 2024: BJP-Led Alliance Wins

The Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024 results have delivered a momentous victory for the Mahayuti Alliance, a coalition of the BJP, Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, which secured over 220 of the 288 seats. With the majority mark set at 145, the Mahayuti’s performance significantly surpassed expectations, marking a landslide win.

The Election Commission of India began vote counting at 8 A.M. today, with early trends favoring the BJP-led coalition. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), a coalition including Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), trailed far behind, securing fewer than 50 seats, underscoring the challenges faced by the opposition in this election.

In terms of seat distribution, the BJP contested 149 seats, winning most of them. The Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) fielded 81 candidates, and the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) contested 59 seats. On the MVA side, Congress ran 101 candidates, Shiv Sena (UBT) 95, and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) 86, but their combined efforts fell short against the Mahayuti’s dominant performance.
Celebrations erupted across the state, with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and BJP state chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule preparing traditional sweets to mark the victory. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to social media platform X, exclaiming, “Development wins!” to celebrate the BJP-led alliance's triumph.

The sweeping victory is seen as a strong endorsement of the Mahayuti's governance and campaign strategies, setting the stage for continued BJP influence in Maharashtra's political landscape.
