Manchester United Desires Harry Maguire more than Manchester City
Editorials News | Jul-18-2019
Manchester United wants Harry Maguire more than Manchester City and is clearly favorites to sign the defender in case they accept a position with Leicester, said Sky Sports News' Kaveh Solhekol, to The Transfer Show.
Sky's sources understand that City is prepared to match United's £ 70 million offer for England's central defender, but Leicester is paying a fee that would eclipse the world record of £ 75m for a defender who was established when Liverpool signed with Virgil van Dijk from Southampton last year.
Sky Sports News understands that Maguire has already told Brendan Rodgers and his colleagues in Leicester that he wants to leave this summer.
Solhekol believes the 26-year-old would be prepared to abandon his ambitions in the Champions League in the short term to complete a move towards Old Trafford.
"Nobody has approached Leicester's valuation of more than £ 75 million, I think if someone does, Harry Maguire will leave Leicester this summer," said Solhekol.
Why Manchester's rivals love Maguire?
"I think in an ideal world he would like to play in the Champions League and obviously he will not get it next season if he moves to Manchester United."
"But I think the situation is that Manchester United needs it more, Manchester United wants it more and Manchester United is willing to pay more than Manchester City at this time."
"That's why tonight we think United are the favorite to sign him."
'Hull will be looking with interest'
"A club that will see it with interest is Hull City," Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth added.
"Hull sold Maguire to Leicester for 17 million pounds and they beat 15 percent of any gains Leicester makes [from the potential sale of Maguire].
"If we do the calculations and he make £ 80 million, that is a gain of £ 63 million, they will earn more than £ 9 million with this transfer, so it would be interesting for Leicester and Hull to go as far north with the price as possible".
