Milk Production To Grow From 6% to 9% Annually by 2022

Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh informed that the annual growth in milk production will increase to 9 percent annually by 2022 from the current 6.3 percent so as to the boost the dairy sector. These numbers came out as a result of several initiatives taken by the government to augment the growth of dairy sector. India is the world's largest producer of milk and its output stands at 165 million tonnes in 2016-2017. At the 'World Milk Day' function, the minister also informed that the annual increase in the milk production during 2010-2014 was 4%. The country's milk product output has gone up by 23.69 percent during the time period of 2014-2018.

 

Even though India has number one spot in milk production, the productivity stands at a low point, Singh added. The government was making efforts to increase the productivity by raising the efficiency of the milch animals. The ministry has sanctioned 20 gokul grams in the last 4 years under Rashtriya Gokul Mission and out of them, work at 3 is done and work at 17 gokul grams was still under progress. 2 national Kamdhenu Breeding Centres - one at Andhra Pradesh and another one at Maharashtra are under way. The government has also launched a new scheme that has an outlay of 10881 crores where cooperatives will be provided loans at 6.5 percent annual interest that can be repaid within 10 years.
