More than 60 Schools are Awaiting Renewal of Affiliation by CBSE

That every school has a compulsion to take affiliation from a board of Education so as to conduct the examinations of Boards Classes of 10th and 12th. Recently it has been discovered as per information available on the portal of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) that over 60 schools in the Chandigarh city are awaiting for the renewal of their affiliation, while some since the year 2008. When the news was highlighted then, the District Education Office (DEO) has summoned the schools and asked for an explanation on the issue from the schools. As per an official, the explanations that were received till date reflects the main problem as delay on the part of the board. That Seeking affiliation or renewal of affiliation from the CBSE is mandatory for conducting board exams of Classes X and XII.
It is a yearly process, every year schools are required to give a list of students appearing for the board examinations, along with the affiliation expiry date and sports fee so as to enroll. It is important to know that without affiliation or expired, students cannot be allowed to appear for the board examinations. Usually, the board grants temporary affiliation for the exams in case of pending affiliation and the thing is continuous in case of some schools since past 10 years. That of 64 such schools, most are government schools are awaiting affiliation and the process is still pending. That some renowned schools such as Model High School, Sector 25, had their affiliation expired on March 31, 2008. Also, the affiliation of Government Senior Secondary School, Dadu Majra Colony, expired in 2008. Recently, Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Sector 18-C, had received an award for cleanliness from the MHRD. However, the school’s affiliation expired in 2013. A government school head said, “Many school heads refrain from paying affiliation fee from their pockets. Sometimes, funds do not come on time from the department, forcing school heads to pay from their own pocket.” In the current year, CBSE delegated its powers of issuing the certificate of affiliation to the regional Education Department. The District Education Office is therefore asking supporting documents from the schools under a pro forma given in the CBSE affiliation by-laws. That the District Education Officer, validating all aspects such as building safety, health and sanitary conditions, safe drinking water, land details and ownership and information related to the staff.
