Mother’s Immune Response- A key Factor of Autism in Child
Editorials News | Oct-25-2017
God has created the Mother and the child as two different entities yet linked to each other. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a set of neuro-developmental disorders that is characterised by impaired mutual interaction and communication skills. It restricts the repetitive behaviours and interests of the affected person. Every one, among the 68 people around the world is affected by this disorder.
Epidemiological evidence has revealed that maternal infection can be a prime cause for autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenia. It may cause lifelong changes in brain function and behaviour of the child. Maternal infection during pregnancy leads toward the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and activation of TH17 cells in the mother’s bloodstream. It affects the offspring during childhood and increases the likelihood of offspring developing psychiatric disorders like adults. Scientists have felt the need of developing new diagnostic tools and therapeutics so that the risk of ASD could be minimized.
The results are based on existing research by showing an association between maternal immune activation caused by asthma and allergies in the mother during pregnancy. It finally leads towards ASD symptom severity in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The mothers who had a history of immune activation and had comparatively higher Social Responsiveness, their children are found more prone to ASD. Therefore, it is felt that there should be more researches in this field so that the child can be protected in a better way.
