New School Launched After Vajpayee’s Name in Maharashtra

On January 1, 2019, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the opening of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Schools on the auspicious occasion of 94th birth anniversary of the late Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee was an Indian politician who has served three terms as the Prime Minister of India, first for a term of 13 days in 1996, then for a period of 13 months from 1998 to 1999, and finally, for a full term from 1999 to 2004.
This school is affiliated to the Maharashtra International Education Board (MIEB). The motive behind the setting up of this school is to achieve higher education standards. It has been planned that in the beginning 13 Zilla Parishad (ZP) schools would become part of this international board. The curriculum shall be in the mother tongue. At the launch event, Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar, Maharashtra ministers Vinod Tawde, Pankaja Munde, Sadabhau Khot and computer scientist Dr. Vijay Bhatkar were also present at the event. Fadnavis stated that Shri Vajpayee was an eminent personality who worked hard and helped in increasing the growth rate in all sectors in India, specifically in the field of education. He has also emphasised the importance of international standards in rural India. Due to the efforts of Shri. Vajpayee Maharashtra has jumped up to the 3rd rank from 13th. Fadnavis stated that the government has improved in the education sector with the same machinery, same infrastructure, and same teachers. He further claimed that the government is expecting reverse migration with many students from English medium schools returning to government run ZP schools. It is not a copy-paste curriculum but it has been drafted by team of experts like Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, Dr. Kakodkar, Swaroop Sampat, Achyut Palav and many others. Shri Fadnavis while referring to the curriculum stated that they are intervening just for capacity building and drafting strategies and for providing whatever assistance is required.
