 Oinam Bembem Devi - Female Superstar Footballer Of India

Oinam Bembem Devi is a female Indian footballer who originates from Imphal in Manipur. In 2017, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport presented her with the prestigious Arjuna Award. She is also known as the "Durga of Indian Football" and works passionately towards spreading awareness in India about women's football. She began her career in football when she just 8. She trained at United Pioneers Club in Imphal. At national level, she has made several appearances for the Manipur state football team since 1993. In 2014, she was signed by the Maldivian Football Club New Radiant. She made her first international debut at the age of 2015 in Asian Women's championship.

 

At the AFC qualifying competition held in Thailand in 2003, she was given the armband of the Indian contingent in AFC. She was captain of the Indian team at the time of 11th South Asian Games in 2010, held at Bangladesh and 2012 SAFF Women's Championship that took place in Sri Lanka. She wears no.6 jersey when she plays for Indian women's football team. She is going to play her last game against nepa at the 12th South Asian Games which will be held in Shillong.

 

In 2017, she was appointed as manager of Eastern Sporting Union during Indian Women's league final rounds. She is the first manager in history to have the title as a player too.
