Only Tamil Students Get NEET's Grace Marks
Editorials News | Jul-17-2018
National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (UG) was approved by the Supreme Court in place of AIPMT which was proposed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Medical Council of India (MCI).
Before filling up the application form students are advised to check their eligibility criteria as the criteria are likely to differ as per the state or All India basis. The candidates must have cleared their 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry Biology or Biotechnology and English which are the compulsory subjects. The NEET exam 2018 was conducted by CBSE on May 6 in 136 cities in 11 languages, and the results of which were announced on June 4. However, The Madurai Bench of the Madras High court acting on the petition of senior CPI (M) leader and MP TK Rangarajan had in July ordered the CBSE to grant 196 marks, 4 marks each for the supposedly erroneous questions that the Tamil Version of the question paper had. According to the petition the Tamil translation were done incorrectly from English which confused the students who had appeared for the test.
The question paper this year had 180 questions for a total of 720 marks in Total. CBSE is now contemplating to move higher court on the ground that the information bulletin of the NEET exam had clearly stated that “candidates opting for regional languages would be provided bilingual test booklets in selected regional languages and in English. In case of any ambiguity in translation of any of the questions, its English version shall be treated as final”.
