PR Sreejesh And Rani Rampal To Captain Indian Hockey Team Till 2018 End

Hockey Indian team named PR Sreejesh and Rani Rampal as captains of the senior men's and women's teams until the end of 2018. Sreejesh takes on the leadership role after Manpreet Singh suffered from anterior cruciate ligament injury. The injury occured in his right knee while playing at 2017 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. Rani Rampal has, however, held her position as the captain. Sreejesh was named captain in 2016 just before the FIH Champions Trophy where India triumphed with a silver medal. He resumed the position from Sardar Singh and held it till the Rio Olympics.

Sreejesh gave a strong performance in January 2018 in New Zealand at the four-nation invitational hockey tournament where Indian team came second. It was for the first time in 12 years that India failed to bring back even a single medal in hockey during the CWG games. After returning, some top players met top HI officials and gave their explanation.

Rani filled in the role of the captain guiding India to win an Asia Cup. With her leadership and continuous guidance, India rose to 10th position from 12th position. Indian women's hockey team also made their first ever semi final appearance at the XXI CWG 2018.

Both Sreejesh and Rani command exceptional respect for leading their country with great enthusiasm. Both the teams have some important events coming like the World Cup and Asian Games and announcing one captain for the whole year will bring some stability to the core of the teams.
