 Ramkumar Ramanathan: Know About The Success Stories Of This Indian Tennis Player

Ramkumar Ramanathan is born on November 8, 1994. He is a professional Indian tennis player. He is the first Indian player to reach a singles final of the ATP World Tour since Somdev Devvarman. He reached his highest individual ranking on 111 July 30, 2018 and represents India in the Davis Cup.

Ramanathan started playing tennis at the age of five. He was introduced to the sport by his father Ramanathan. The name of her mother is Alagammai and the name of the sister is Uma. His two parents are in the textile business. He speaks English, Spanish and Tamil. He trains at the Sánchez-Casal Academy in Barcelona, Spain. He is currently chasing B.A. in Economics at Loyola College.

In 2014, Ramanathan made headlines when he qualified for the main draw at the Chennai Open and beat India's No. 1 Somdev Devvarman in the first round. Eventually he lost to Marcel Granollers in the second round.

In 2015, Ramanathan played mainly at the level of Futures and Challenger. He entered the Chennai Open, where he lost in the first round against Tatsuma Ito in straight sets. In April, he reached his first doubles final at a challenger event in the Mersin Cup in Turkey. By partnering with Riccardo Ghedin, the pair lost the final to Mate Pavić and Michael Venus. He entered his second ATP event on the world tour of the year at the Malaysian Open, where he lost in the first round against Mikhail Kukushkin.

In the 2016 season, Ramanathan entered the Chennai Open and reached the quarterfinals. This was the first time he reached the quarterfinals in an ATP World Tour event. He defeated Daniel Gimeno Traver and Alexander Kudryavtsev in first and second round respectively. Finally lost to Aljaž Bedene in the quarterfinals. In October, Ramanathan teamed up with Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan. The pair reached the final in the Vietnam Open Challenger where they lost to Sanchai Ratiwatana and Sonchat Ratiwatana of Thailand to finish as runners-up.

In April, Ramanathan reached his first final of singles contenders in the Tallahassee Challenger. He lost the final against Blaž Rola of Slovenia to finish as runner-up.

Ramanathan entered the Antalya Open 2017, where he produced a great surprise by defeating the world No.8 and top seed Dominic Thiem in the second round. This was his first match against a top-10 player. Ranked number 222 in the world, Ramanathan defeated Thiem in straight sets 6-3 6-2. He progressed to the quarterfinals, where he lost Marcos Baghdatis in a third set tiebreaker.

In July, he reached his second final as a singles challenger in the Nielsen Pro Tennis Championships. But here I also had to be happy as runner-up. He lost the final in straight sets against Akira Santillan of Japan.

In August, Ramanathan qualified for the first time in the main draw of a Masters 1000 tournament at the Cincinnati Masters. He defeated Christopher Eubanks in the first round but lost to Jared Donaldson in the second round. This result led him to the career of 156 high ranking.

Ramanathan entered the US Open qualifying draw. He defeated Paul-Henri Mathieu in the first round but lost to Nicolas Mahut in the second round.

Ramanathan opened his new season by entering the Maharashtra Open as a wild card. Lost in the 2nd round the top favorite Marin Cilic in straight sets. He then entered the Australian Open qualifying draw, where he lost in the final qualifying round to Vasek Pospisil.

In April, Ramanathan reached his first singles final of the season at the Challenger in Taipei. He was defeated in the final by his compatriot Yuki Bhambri.

In July, Ramanathan reached his first ATP World Final in Newport. He lost Steve Johnson of the United States in the final. He became the first Indian player to reach an ATP World Tour singles final since Somdev Devvarman, who reached the final in Johannesburg in 2011.
