New Chief Minister of Delhi

As we all know recently Delhi Elections results were out where BJP wins the majority of the seats. In Delhi Legislative Party meeting at its national headquarter on Wednesday decided that Rekha Gupta will head the government of Delhi. The BJP government back in Delhi after 27 years.

Rekha Gupta is selected as the New CM of Delhi. She is the first-time MLA from the Shalimar Bagh. She is the 4th woman Chief minister of Delhi. She took an oath on 20th February at Ramlila Maidan, which is attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP Leaders.

She is an alumnus of the Daulat Ram College, Delhi University. She is actively engaged in the student's politics and is part of the ABVP. She served as the Secretary of Daulat Ram College during the 1994-95 academic year. In the 1996-97 academic year, she held the position of Secretary of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) and later became its President.

She initiated and led efforts to address the shortage of U-special buses for students and successfully united all five major student unions on a single platform. Additionally, she introduced the Common Admission Form for the first time, benefiting thousands of students. She also established a committee to combat sexual harassment, aiming to prevent harassment and teasing of female students on college campuses.

When examining the history of women Chief Ministers of Delhi, we found the following:

1. The first woman Chief Minister of Delhi was Sushma Swaraj, who served from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1998.

2. The second was Sheila Dikshit, who held office from 2003 to 2013, representing the Indian National Congress.

3. The third woman Chief Minister is Atishi Singh, who served from 2024 to 2025.

Women’s leadership is reshaping the political landscape, and Rekha Gupta stands as a testament to this transformation. As she takes charge as the Chief Minister of Delhi, her journey reflects the power of perseverance, vision, and women’s empowerment in governance. Actively involved in politics since her college days, she has demonstrated unwavering dedication and the ability to make tough decisions in the interest of students. With her leadership, she aims to propel Delhi to new heights and justify the trust placed in her by the voters.
