Repercussions Of Scarcity Of Water

Years back humans were made aware of the scarcity and low levels of water and no action was taken. It’s been long since then and the water level has only come down. Where people who are well off are going for walks at 6, people in villages have to walk miles every day to fetch water. There is no replacement for water because of it being an essential for living.

Across the globe, 785 million people don’t have safe water for drinking. Every year 3.5 million die due to not having access to enough and safe water. Due to water scarcity people are forced to drink contaminated water and every 21 seconds a child’s death is caused by water born disease.

There are agricultural lands in the world which are drying and have turned barren due to water scarcity. Thousands of farmers have attempted suicide for this reason. Just like air, water should not be given by the amount of money earned. Some of the serious repercussions of water scarcity are mentioned below-

  • Migration- not having adequate water will only lead for people to migrate to places with more water to satisfy their need.
  • Development- industries and small business cannot be maintained and run without sufficient water which will lead to drop of development in areas suffering from water scarcity.
  • Deaths (mentioned above)- water scarcity and contamination is the cause for billions of death all over the globe.
  • Insufficiency for cattle and wildlife- many animals are have to be put down because of their owners not having enough water to provide.

These should be enough reasons for the people to start saving water in showers and harvesting it during rains. If ancient castles in India can have a water reservoir so can the modern houses.
