Matt McGahan, former blues blues five, will make his debut in the Reds as a fullback against the Waratahs, who reminded the Wallabies Adam Ashley-Cooper and Tom Robertson in their starting lineup. Meanwhile, Rebels player Quade Cooper was allowed to face the Bulls on Friday night, while star recruit Matt Toomua was named in the bank. Beauden Barrett will sit in the Hurricanes' home game against the Jaguars in the second of his weeks of rest imposed by the All Blacks.
Hurricane trainer John Plumtree handed the reins to experienced James Marshall, while in the other change to the starting XV; Du'Plessis Kirifi enters for Reed Prinsep. No 8 Prinsep suffered a nasty cut in the face against the Blues last weekend. Ardie Savea, on the other hand, will play in the back of the scrum, with Kirifi taking Savea's number 7 shirts.
There are four changes in the bank with Heiden Bedwell-Curtis, Chris Eves, Fletcher Smith and Salesi Rayasi, all included. Plumtree was pleased with his team's 22-12 victory over the Blues and distrusted the Jaguars who received a sharp whistle from referee Ben O'Keeffe in last week's 32-27 loss to the Highlanders.
"We expect the same kind of physical challenge from the Jaguars that they showed last year and last week against the Highlanders who can perform really well in New Zealand," said Plumtree. "They also play a really entertaining rugby style and are prepared to use the ball from anywhere on the field, so our defense will have to be really good again this week.
"We really want to finish this five-game block on top of our fans and head into the rest week in good shape." Meanwhile, Jaguares coach Gonzalo Quesada recalled some important names in his starting lineup, including hooker Agustín Creevy, blocking Tomas Lavanini, flanker Pablo Matera and defender Tomas Cubelli.
