Editorials News | Sep-30-2018
The Supreme Court has decided to strike down some of its provisions of Aadhaar like linking it with bank accounts and mobile phone. The apex court is still fixed on their decision to seed PAN with Aadhaar. Just a few days back, the SC on Wednesday declared the Centre's flagship Aadhaar scheme as constitutionally valid but added that Aadhaar will not be needed for school admissions.
A 5-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra declared the decisions. Along with Aadhaar not required for school admission, it will also not be required for examinations conducted by Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE), National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical entrance and the University Grants Commission (UGC).
A new circular issued by UIDAI stated that it shall be the duty of the schools under regulation 12 A of Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Regulations to arrange for Aadhaar enrolments and biometric update for all those student whose Aadhaar number or biometric in Aadhaar has not been updated till now.
